Remember waaaay back two weeks ago, when I compared chapter 32 ("Cetology") to the Book of Numbers in the Bible?
Here's an interesting cross-reference for you: turns out that David Plotz, over at slate.com is "Blogging the Bible."
Why?
"I want to find out what happens when an ignorant person actually reads the book on which his religion is based."
Here's his intro to/description of the project. Scroll down to find the link to the blog itself.
But since I know you're all dying to read it, here's his take on the Book of Numbers.
Friday, tomorrow. Happy weekend, ya'll!

i wish i'd been reading that from the very beginning; i very much doubt i have the internet stamina to catch up on all of it now, but it's a fascinating link and i'm clicking around looking for more morbid details...
ReplyDeleteSo, did I ever tell you that I wrote to David Plotz while he was blogging the Bible to explain something to him? He was wondering about a piece of Joshua where the sun stops in the sky - are there any astrological explanations for this? I explained that this was actually the grounds the Church used to prosecute Galileo - the Bible says the sun stopped in its path, therefore, the sun circles the Earth. . . He didn't know this, and wrote back to thank me. I really enjoyed his series. Happy weekend, y'al.
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah! I do remember that story! You're my hero, and it's way cool that he wrote back to you.
